"I GO AGAINST THE NOTION THAT BLACK ISN'T BEAUTIFUL
Growing up as a mixed race woman of Black, Tlingit, and German heritage I often faced stereotypes that affected who I was and how I walked through life. I resorted to drawing, painting, and journaling at a young age as a means of recording my everyday life and those around me while figuring out deep questions about self and identity.

In my works of women I honor the Black woman through strength and femininity. In all of my pieces Black women are adorned with beautiful natural hair in different styles and textures as well as skin color of every shade from ivory to ebony. I go against the notion that Black isn't beautiful and spend my free time honing in on body language to tell stories of my queens through bold colors, pattern, and pop culture. You will also notice my women adorned with mask-like faces etched with line and sometimes exaggerated facial features, which comes from my fascination with African sculpture, particularly the bundu masks."
